Blacktown City Council is a Refugee Welcome Zone

Refugee Welcome Zones are an initiative of the Refugee Council of Australia, Australia's peak refugee support organisation.

The purpose of the Refugee Welcome Zones is to enable councils to declare that they welcome refugees into their area, to celebrate the diversity of refugees and cultures in their midst and to acknowledge the importance of upholding the rights of human refugees who have escaped persecution.

Refugee Week

Refugee week coincides with World Refugee Day being held in the Week which includes June 20. This is a unique opportunity for refugee communities to hold events and functions which highlight the culture and contribution of refugees in Australia.

Harmony Day 21 March

Harmony Day occurs on 21 March and coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Each State and Territory Government hosts multicultural events that coincide with or culminate around Harmony Day. The events in Blacktown celebrate a commitment to harmony in a culturally diverse local government area and highlights issues for all Australian citizens.
