There are many different ways that young people can actively participate in their community. Some of the opportunities at Blacktown City Council include:

Blacktown Youth Advisory Sub-Committee (YASC)

YASC is a group of 20 young people aged 12-24 years old that meet monthly to represent youth priorities to Council. If you love having a say, want to learn more about government and are committed to representing youth, this committee is for you! To get involved, please read the YASC Terms of Reference and send in your Application Form.

International Youth Day, 12 August 2010

On Thursday 12 August, over 50 young people from local schools and youth organisations gathered at Blacktown Council to discuss what was most important to them. Members of Council's Youth Advisory Sub-Committee designed and facilitated a series of workshops that identified young people's strengths and how they could use them to make positive change in their local community. All attendees were given a Bright Ideas Tool Kit - full of tips and resources to help with their projects. Young people were also given a native plant as a symbol of contributing positively to their world.

Blacktown City celebrates International Youth Day along with the rest of the planet. This day is an opportunity for local young people to think global and act local.
