Recycled and Natural Road Pavement and Pipe Bedding Materials

Approved Stockpiles

Blacktown City Council is committed to the reduction of all forms of demolition waste, such as concrete, asphalt, bricks etc, which has traditionally ended up in landfill.

In this regard, Council has introduced a Quality Assurance Process that allows the use of recycled road pavement materials within the City of Blacktown in road pavement construction. Council certifies recycled materials produced by suppliers as sub-base (DGS), base course (DGB), pipe bedding material and fill sand (backfilling material).

RECYCLED MATERIALS, WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN CERTIFIED BY COUNCIL, MUST NOT BE USED IN ROAD PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION.

In addition, council allows use of crushed or ripped Hawkesbury Sandstone (natural sandstone) as a sub-base material for the construction of residential streets that have low traffic volumes.
Note sandstone may not be used in pavements for industrial roads unless it has been augmented by a process approved by Council.
