Recycling Bin - Yellow lid

Recycling is a way of processing used materials and making them into new recycling image.jpg products. You can help to reduce the environmental impact of your waste by separating all recyclable items from your garbage. You can support recycling and buy products that are recyclable or packaged in recycled materials. Check that items display the recycling logo.

Blacktown City Council provides a fortnightly household recycling collection service which is available to all residences in the Local Government Area. Please ring Council on 9839 6000 for a recycling calendar that shows the recycling weeks for your street.

Blacktown residents recycled 25,673 tonnes of waste in 2009-2010 - a terrific effort!

Please put the bins out the night before your collection is due. After the bins have been emptied, it is necessary to return all bins to a storage area on your property on the same day of collection. This reduces vandalism and theft. Contact Council on 9839 6000 if your bin is damaged or stolen. This is a free service.

It is important that users of this service only put items that can actually be recycled into their recycling bin. These are:

· Paper and cardboard

· Juice and milk cartons

· Glass bottles and jars

· Plastic bottles and containers

· Steel and aluminium cans

Please remember:

· Rinse items and remove lids before recycling bottles and jars

· NO plastic bags and do NOT bag recyclable material

· Wash and disinfect wheelie bins regularly
