- Buy only what you need - impulse buying may result in buying things you can't use
- Place a NO ADVERTISING MATERIAL sticker on your letter box
- Choose products with recyclable packaging
- Consider using low-energy fluorescent light bulbs. They'll last longer and cost less to replace over time.
- Select products with the least amount of unnecessary packaging.
- Reduce the use of household cleaners by buying less, using less and looking for natural, safer alternatives
- Read the labels to avoid buying the more toxic product and buy only what you need
- Think safety when handling and storing cleaners and dispose of them legally and safely
- Concentrated products often require less packaging and less energy to transport.
- Glass jars and bottles are ideal for storing sauces and jams or in the garage for screws, nuts and bolts.
- If you have egg cartons, ice-cream containers, margarine containers: Speak to your local school and preschool to find out whether they can use them for craft activities.
- Buy products that can be reused. This includes items that can be used for the same purpose, such as rechargeable batteries. Regular use of these products limits the total amount of waste that you generate in your home, especially packaging waste.
