Special Waste
What to do with your waste that you're not quite sure about?
E-waste
Computer recycling is important for the environment as the computer's components are recycled and reused. Before you throw away your unwanted computer consider some of the other options available.
Currently, Council holds an electronic waste weekend once per year. The next one is scheduled for weekend of 17 and 18 of September 2011 at the Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney (entrance via Eastern Road).

Household Chemical Clean Out
Out-of-date or disused household chemicals kept in your kitchen, bathroom, laundry, garage or garden shed?
Do you know the safest way to dispose of potentially hazardous household chemicals? Chemical CleanOut is the answer.
Chemical CleanOut is a FREE service for the safe disposal of a range of common household chemicals, many of which could cause harm if not disposed of correctly. In addition, many of these materials can be recycled or reused, so not only are you helping to reduce waste and pollution, you are also helping in resource recovery efforts.
Chemical CleanOut drop-off centres operate at various locations at specified dates throughout the year. Have a look at the events calendar and brochures and locate a collection that is convenient to you.
See the locations and dates below or contact your local council for more information. Locations and dates are subject to change, so please check prior to drop-off. Opening times are 9 am - 3:30 pm (unless otherwise stated).

Fridge Buyback is a residential program to help you surrender your old second fridge and receive a $35 rebate. By giving up your old second fridge, you will lower your electricity costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Old fridges use lots of energy and draw up to three times the amount of energy than newer fridges. Operating a second fridge puts an average of $210 a year onto your power bill and releases harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Households that have been running two fridges can hand in their old working second fridge. The fridges are collected, professionally degassed and the metals recycled. How to: Call 1800 708 401 during business hours for more information and to make a booking.
Eligibility:
- Working second fridge must have been in regular use
- 250 litres or more in size
- 10+ years old
Fridge Collection:
- $35 rebate for fridge - if the removal of the fridge involves 6 access steps or less
- Free collection but no rebate - if there are between 7 to 20 access steps
- A fee will apply if the property has more than 20 access steps
Visit the Fridge Buyback website at www.fridgebuyback.com.au. You can see a short video showing how the program works here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuIMqjbdR40.
