Back to St Bartholomews Day

2011 marks the 170th anniversary of St Bartholomews Church. To celebrate this milestone, the Friends of St Bartholomews will be hosting a "Back to St Bartholomews Day" on Saturday, April 9.

Commencing at 10am at St Bartholomews Church, the day will feature guest speaker Associate Professor Carol Liston, re-enactment group The Royal NSW Corp of Marines, stalls and refreshments. The St Bartholomews Cemetery Records will also be available for family history research on the day.

Entry on the day is $6 and children under 12 are free. A shuttle bus from Blacktown Railway Station will leave hourly from 9.30am (southern side) to the lower parking area of the church property.

St Bartholomews has a long history in Blacktown and many early settlers are buried in the graveyard. Among them is William Lawson, one of the first European settlers to cross the Blue Mountains and Thomas Willmot, the first Shire President of Blacktown.

Nominate Blacktown City's Police Officer of the Year

Nominations are now open for the Blacktown City Rotary Police Officer of the Year. This is a rare opportunity to acknowledge outstanding acts of courage, compassion, understanding and devotion to duty by members of NSW Police working in the Blacktown Local Area Command.

The award is a great initiative of the Rotary Club of Blacktown City and I am looking forward to seeing who is nominated this year. It is important for our community and the people who are assisted by police, to have the opportunity to say thank you to the hard working men and women from across Blacktown City.

You can pick up a nomination form Westpoint's Customer Service Desk, Level 3. Nominations close Tuesday, May 17, 2011.

For more information please contact Gail Johnson on 0416 023 495.
