Congratulations to Festival Parade winners
It was my pleasure to announce the winners of the 2011 Blacktown Fiesta Street Parade before the full Council at Blacktown Civic Centre on Wednesday 29 June 2011. The Blacktown Fiesta Street Parade was held on Saturday 28 May and was the highlight of the Blacktown Fiesta, which ran from 21 to 28 May 2011 across Blacktown City.
The Street Parade attracted 55 entrants and was a spectacular display of community spirit, travelling through the main streets of the Blacktown CBD. The parade featured clowns, floats, dance and community groups, schools and marching bands to entertain the crowds.
The Streets Alive and Parade Day was one of the main attractions of the Blacktown Fiesta. The event fascinated massive crowds, and it was wonderful to see the community spirit of Blacktown come alive. There were five categories judged on the Street Parade Day and the winners announced were as follows:
- Best Dressed: Blacktown City Show Society Inc
- Champion Community: Australian Sikh Association Inc
- Champion Business: Diamond Dance and Cheer Leading
- Champion Band: Falun Dafa Association of N.S.W Inc
- Champion Education: Nagle College
Each of the winners will receive $500 and a plaque, and the Best Dressed will receive $650 plus a commemorative plaque. The Champion Band, Falun Dafa Association of N.S.W. Inc will also lead the Street Parade in 2012.
I would like to compliment all the entrants who participated in the parade - it was amazing to see such a large number and variety of participants - and congratulations to all the winners of the Parade.
