Congratulations to the 2011 Sportsperson of the Year winner
I had the pleasure of congratulating the nominees and winners of the 2010 Sportsperson of the Year Awards on Saturday night, February 26 at Blacktown RSL.
Over 300 people attended the presentation evening with special guest speaker on the night, one of Australia's truly great runners in athletic history, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor.
Congratulations to all the winners on the night, the 2010 Awards had over 50 athletes from a variety of sports nominated for an award across the seven categories.
The top honour on the night, 2010 Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to 17 year old Teigen Allen for her achievements in Soccer.
Teigen was selected in the Australian Matildas Open Women's Soccer Team at the age of 16. During 2010, she was a member of the Australian Young Matildas Under 20s Girls Soccer Team and made her debut in the Open Women's Team in the Asian Cup Championship which served as the FIFA World Cup Qualification Tournament. Recently, she was again selected in the Matildas Open Women's Soccer Squad for the Peace Cup Tournament in Korea and the Tour of Germany. She is also a member of the Sydney Football Club Women's League Team that won the 2009 - 2010 National Championship.
Congratulations to all nominees. I encourage local residents who know someone who is excelling at their sport and should be recognised for their sporting achievements to nominate them for the 2011 Sportsperson of the Year Award.
