Council joins the Reconciliation Action Plan program

Blacktown City Council became the 200th organisation to join the Reconciliation Action Plan program last Friday, November 26, 2010.

The Reconciliation Action Plan is an important milestone for Reconciliation Australia and Blacktown City, which has one of the largest Aboriginal populations in New South Wales.

First developed in 2006 by Reconciliation Australia, the Reconciliation Action Plan program encourages and supports organisations to engage their community in the national effort to close the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and other Australians.

The Blacktown City Reconciliation Action Plan aims to provide a foundation for relationships and respect that will lead to mutual benefits for all Australians in Blacktown City.

The plan outlines a series of actions for the next year that will help Council build better relationships with Aboriginal Communities.

Copies of the Reconciliation Action Plan are available on Council's website in the Community Development section www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au or by calling Council on 9839 6000.
