Garden Competition Winners

I had the pleasure of announcing the winners of the 2011 Garden Competition on Friday, 18 November, 2011 at a special awards presentation in the Bowman Hall.

Congratulations to the Champion Garden winners John and Judy Collier of Stanhope Gardens and also to all of our other entrants in this year's competition.

This year more than 80 gardens were entered into the garden competition, which is a fantastic effort given the varied weather conditions that we have experience over the last 12 months. It is fulfilling to see the great amount of personal pride residents display in their properties and in our local community.

Again congratulations to all winners and entrants in this year's competition, your hard work is evident in the outstanding quality of your gardens.

Hot Summer Grooves

I encourage the community to come along to Council's FREE Hot Summer Grooves event this Sunday, 4 December, from 1.00pm -8.00pm to enjoy an afternoon picnic with family and friends, by the lakeside at Nurragingy Reserve, Knox Road, Doonside.

Residents and visitors can expect more at this year's event with five bands delivering jazz, blues, soul and R'n'B numbers from across the eras including a performances by the latest sensations to hit Sydney.

Residents can to bring along their own picnic basket to enjoy as they soak up the sounds on a perfect summers afternoon. This year there will be performances by Steve Tonge Trio, Sauer Kraut Stompers, Mike Champion, The Kami's, FreshMix and Enormous Horns.

I also encourage residents to visit the new and exciting Kookaburra playground at Nurragingy Reserve. Like many other public open space areas throughout our City, the new playgrounds provides our community with natural environments where children and their families can explore, adventure and experience natural play.

For more information on the new playground and Hot Summer Grooves contact Council on 9839 6000.
