Mayoral History Prize 2011
Entries are now open for the 2011 Mayoral History Prize and I encourage students or groups of students at all levels, who live or attend school in the Blacktown City area to enter.
The prize valued at $1,000, encourages the community to embrace the rich and diverse history of Blacktown City and is awarded for a significant contribution to research, documentation and promotion of Blacktown's history.
In 2011 the prize will be awarded to a student or group of students and is a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their understanding of our local history, their talent, and also give our residents a resource to learn more about our history.
For application forms contact the Blacktown City Council Customer Service Desk, Blacktown Visitor and Heritage Information Centre, any branch of Blacktown City Libraries or download a copy from www.libraries.blacktown.nsw.gov.au.
Entries close 4.30pm, Monday 1 August 2011.
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander performers
Council is calling for expressions of interests from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander performance groups to perform at our many community events throughout the year.
There is always something happening in Blacktown City for people of all ages and with varying interest. Council hosts many annual community events such as Youth Week, NAIDOC Week, National Heritage Festival and the Blacktown City Festival. All of these events require performers.
Council offers a performance fee for people who perform at our events.
Interested Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander performance groups should contact Council on 9839 6000 for further information.
