NAIDOC Week Celebrations
NAIDOC Week is fast approaching and Council has organised a number of exciting activities for all residents to enjoy.
NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week provides a platform to promote awareness, recognition and an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' history, culture and awareness.
Emerton Leisure Centre will host a NAIDOC Family Fun Day on Wednesday, July 14 featuring a number of attractions including Indigenous workshops, games and performances.
There will also be a NAIDOC Week celebration held at Nurragingy Reserve on Saturday, July 10. The activities for the day include face painting, cultural stalls, art displays, a barbeque and performances.
I encourage the local community to come along to these events and join in the festivities. For further information on these events contact either Emerton Leisure Centre on 9628 7016 or Council on 9839 6000.
Doonside Village Fair this weekend
Residents are reminded that the Doonside Village Fair will be held on Saturday, July 3 in the Doonside CBD.
The very first Doonside Village Fair was held over 30 years ago as a cultural event to help unite the Doonside community, and proved to be very successful. Today the Doonside Village Festival has transformed into a popular event attracting up to 10,000 visitors from the local and surrounding areas each year.
The fair will begin at 10am and include two performance stages featuring a multicultural program plus over 100 market stalls - selling arts and crafts, amusement rides and much more. The festivities will conclude at 4pm.
For more information on this spectacular day contact Council on 9839 6000.
