Responsible Pet Ownership over the Summer Holiday

The summer holiday season is here and I'd like to remind residents not to forget about their family pet.

Owning a pet can be a rewarding experience but it is also a big responsibility. We must all ensure our animals are healthy, well nourished, groomed, vaccinated, properly exercised and socialised.

Here are some handy tips to help ensure your pet is well looked after this holiday season:

  • Provide a proper diet and veterinary care as well as adequate exercise
  • Ensure there is always enough fresh water for your pet
  • Always have your dog on a leash when out in public
  • Dogs and cats living in NSW are required to be microchipped by 12 weeks of age and lifetime registered on the NSW Companion Animals Register by six months of age
  • Dispose of pet droppings in litter bins
  • If your family is going away, ensure your pet has a place to stay or there is someone available to look after them in your absence

Have a very safe and happy Christmas!

On behalf of my fellow Councillors and the staff at Blacktown City Council, I extend my warm wishes to all Blacktown City residents and their families for a happy and safe holiday season!

2011 has been a year of great achievement for Blacktown City and we know already that 2012 will be another significant year in the growth of our City.

If you are travelling over the festive period, please take care on the roads and remember to STOP, REVIVE AND SURVIVE.

All the best for the New Year!

Councillor Alan Pendleton,

Mayor of Blacktown City
