Riverstone celebrates its 200th birthday!

This year, the suburb of Riverstone will celebrate its 200th birthday. In 1810,

Lieutenant - Colonel Maurice Charles O'Connell was granted 2,500 acres of land by Governor Lachlan Macquarie which he called "Riverston Farm".

The bicentenary of this land grant is a most significant historical milestone not only for the people of Riverstone but for the whole Blacktown City community.

There are a number of events planned to celebrate this important historical milestone which will commence with a picnic in the park and the official opening of the extension to the Blacktown Bicentennial Museum on Sunday, February 7 from 11am. The community are welcome to come along to this historic event with a range of activities to enjoy.

Indeed, the Museum will play a significant role throughout 2010 acquainting locals and visitors alike with the rich diversity of Riverstone's history.

A local committee chaired by Councillor Alan Pendleton has been formed to establish a full program of events and activities to celebrate this historical milestone. Keep an eye out in your local newspaper or on Council's website www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au for regular updates on programmed activities.
