ALGWA conference hailed a success in Blacktown City
Council has been praised for successfully hosting the Australian Local Government Women's Association, NSW Branch (ALGWA) annual conference from May 26 - 28.
Over 100 women and men from metropolitan, rural and regional councils across New South Wales attended the conference, which featured guest speakers Robyn Moore, Liz Ellis and Deborah Wallace, as well as a series of workshops and tours around some of Blacktown City's significant venues.
It was a pleasure to attend the conference and met with delegates over the three days. The feedback I have received from attendees of the event has been overwhelming, commenting on the high quality of the Council organised event and also on our City's outstanding facilities, infrastructure and growth management.
At the conference the Executive Board of ALGWA was elected and Blacktown City Councillor Julie Griffiths was elected as President of the NSW Branch. Councillor Griffiths has had a long association with the ALGWA and has previously held the position of City Vice President.
I extend my congratulations and thanks to the conference organising committee of Council staff on coordinating such a successful ALGWA conference. I would also like to pass on our sincere thanks to ALGWA for choosing Blacktown City as the host city for The Australian Local Government Women's Association's 2011 NSW Conference.
Councillor Alan Pendleton
Mayor of Blacktown City
