The Mount Druitt Hub now open!

After much anticipation, I am pleased to advise residents that The Mount Druitt Hub (Ayres Grove, Mount Druitt) opened to the community on Monday.

This exciting $8 million development is jointly funded (50/50) between Blacktown City Council and the Australian Government under the Australian Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program Strategic Projects 2010 funding agreement.

On Wednesday 19 October, I was honoured to welcome Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard to the Mount Druitt Hub. The Prime Minister was taken on a tour of the hub and was highly impressed with the facility.

A Community Open Day to celebrate the opening of this community facility will be held on Saturday 19 November between 9.30am - 4pm.

The Community Open Day will feature activities for the whole family to enjoy including, computer demonstrations, workshops, face painting, community art displays, and live entertainment Also on the day the library will be launching e-books and e-readers for loan.

The Mount Druitt Hub is an important community resource for the Mount Druitt community. It is a place where local community members can come together, meet, interact, learn new skills, access education and health services, share ideas and enjoy life.

Some of the exciting features of the hub will include:

  • 45 computers within the library for community use and training
  • Free wireless access
  • A colourful children's section which will include toys available for loan
  • Cafe
  • Two entrances, one from Ayres Grove car park and the other from Dawson Mall
  • Three study rooms
  • Multi-purpose rooms on the upper level available for hire

  • Full disabled access
  • A smart 24 hour library return chute
