Your Council

Wishing all a Happy New Year

On behalf of my fellow Councillors and the staff at Blacktown City Council, I extend my warm wishes to all Blacktown City residents and their families and wish everyone a Happy New Year as we welcome in 2012.

As we welcome in the New Year, we also welcome the National Year of Reading.

Australian libraries and library associations are behind a campaign to turn 2012 into the National Year of Reading, linking together all the great things that are already happening around books, reading and literacy, and giving them an extra boost, with inspirational programs and events taking place across the country.

Blacktown City Libraries kick off the year with a Summer Reading Program, for readers aged 0-18 right across the City. The program ends on Friday, 3 February 2012.

The Library also partners with the Paint Blacktown REaD program to encourage pre-reading fun for pre-schoolers. Summer holiday activities include Make a Zine workshops and lots of craft! The Library will be offering many events and programs throughout 2012 to celebrate Australia's first National Year of Reading, so watch this space or check out the website for more information (www.libraries.blacktown.nsw.gov.au).

If you are travelling over the festive period, please take care on the roads and remember to STOP, REVIVE AND SURVIVE. I wish you all a prosperous 2012.

Councillor Alan Pendleton,

Mayor of Blacktown City
