Young people encouraged to get creative

Entries are now open for young artists and children to the 2010 Blacktown City Art Exhibition, held at Blacktown Arts Centre from 18 September to 16 October.

Always a highlight of the art prize, the Children's and Young Artists section features work by 5 - 15 year olds who live or attend schools within the Blacktown City region.

The Children and Young Artists section is themed "Biodiversity" and is inspiring Blacktown's young artists to think about how living things depend on each other to survive and how the natural system provides us with food, clean air, clean water and energy.

Entry to this section is free and is limited to one entry per child/young artist.

Artworks and entry forms for the Children and Young Artists section are due 10am - 5pm Friday 3 and Saturday 4 September. Entry forms are available from Blacktown Arts Centre, Council's Information Centre and can be downloaded at www.artscentre.blacktown.nsw.gov.au.

City Games are back for 2011

During 2011, Council will host the Blacktown City Games the largest celebration of sport in western Sydney.

The City Games will aim to bring people together, share cultures, build friendships and unlock talents that lay undiscovered and I am encouraging sporting clubs to take part in the 2011 City Games, by rebranding their competitions and events as City Games events.

There are also a range of sponsorship options available for local businesses and organisations to be a part of the City Games.

For more information on your sporting club taking part or if you would like to sponsor the 2011 City Games, call Council's Sport and Recreation Services on 9839 6000 or email council@blacktown.nsw.gov.au .

Mayor of Blacktown City,
