Blacktown City welcomes the NRL All Stars
I had the honour of welcoming the 2010 NRL All Stars to Blacktown City on Monday, February 8, 2010, when the team and their coach Mr Wayne Bennett made a special appearance at Blacktown's H.E. Laybutt Field.
The inaugural team consists of some of Australia's current elite rugby league players such as Benji Marshall, Jarryd Hayne and Darren Lockyer.
The All Stars on the day hosted series of ARL development sessions with over 200 school children from across Western Sydney.
The visit was a great boost for the sport in Western Sydney. NRL has a large following in Western Sydney and the opportunity for our community to watch the stars train was an exciting experience. It was also a great honour to have the NRL choose Blacktown to launch their All Stars campaign.
Sport is a large part of life in Blacktown City. Many of our residents are involved in sport in some way or another whether it is through participation, administration, coaching or as a spectator.
At Council, we pleased to be able to lend our support to the development of all sports.
Mayor of Blacktown City
Councillor Charlie Lowles
