About St Bartholomew's Cemetery
St Bartholomew’s Church and Cemetery is located north of Ponds Road, Prospect. Built in 1841, St Bartholomew’s was the first church in Prospect.
At present no new Interment Rights can be purchased at St Bartholomew's. Interments can only take place at St Bartholomew's where rights were purchased prior to 1992 and sufficent space is available within the existing site for an interment.
In some instances where appropriate family connections can be proven, additional ashes may be interred in existing used plots.
How do I organise a burial?
You or your chosen funeral director can make arrangements for an interment by contacting Council and submitting a completed Notice of Interment.(PDF, 230KB)
For grave digging or funeral services, please refer to your funeral director for arrangements to be made.
Ashes can be interred in a pre-purchased interment site on application with placement being conducted by a stonemason or grave digger.

How do I organise a headstone or memorial?
Start by selecting a Licenced Stonemason, and together submit an application to Erect a Memorial(PDF, 244KB) to Council for approval.Monuments/Headstones or memorials must be constructed in accordance with the Australia Standard AS 4204 -2019. Due to the heritage requirements of St Bartholomew's, our application process includes overseeing of a section 57 exemption from OEH when approving any improvement or addition (conditions apply)

How do I cancel a Perpetual Interment Right
Council will repurchase a Perpetual Interment Right for the original purchase price, by submitting a completed Cancel an Interment Right(PDF, 225KB) application along with the original certificate/receipt, appropriate documentation and fee.

How do I transfer a Perpetual Interment Right
Right(s) may be transferred to an immediate family member of the holder(s), but cannot on be sold to third parties by submitting a completed Transfer an Interment Right(PDF, 231KB) and fee.

Operating hours and access
The cemetery is open to the public 365 days a year from 7.30 am to 6 pm (7.30 pm during daylight savings time) - access via main cemetery gate only.
Enquiries and appointments
All enquiries should be directed to our Property Sevices via 9839 6000 as there is no office located at the Cemetery.
Should you wish to make an enquiry in person, please make an appointment to ensure an officer is available to assist with your enquiry.
We are located at 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown and office hours are 8am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday.
Payments can be made via cheque, cash, EFTPOS and credit card. American Express and Diners Club are not accepted.
Maintenance and repair of gravesites
The holder of the interment right is responsible for maintenance and repair of their gravesite/s. Glass or other items that we deem to be a safety hazard are not permitted and if necessary will be removed.
Council will regularly check all new graves and if required organise for dirt to be topped up if needed.
