Overview

Blacktown City is the birthplace and home to many achievers in the fields of business, the arts, sport, science and service to the community. As a city, it is important that we celebrate these high achievers. A list of Hall of Fame inductees are listed in the categories below.

We are looking for more local high achievers. We call for nominations all year round and announce inductees on Australia Day each year.

Government and community service

Greg Combet AM

A former student of Rooty Hill High School, Mr Combet has graduated with degrees from both university of NSW & Sydney University. Mr Combet held three Ministerial Portfolios in the Federal Parliament and was the Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions for seven years.

Business and academic 

Mr Frank Lowy

Mr Lowy built his business empire from humble beginnings in Blacktown in the 1950’s. Founder of the Westfield Group and Chairman of Football Federation, Mr Lowy is also a noted philanthropist.

Mr Bill McNamara

A true pioneer of the development of Blacktown. Bill, the early 1970’s created the biggest single development in the Blacktown CBD, Westpoint Shopping Centre. Bill serves on numerous community boards and is a current member of the board of the Blacktown international Sports Park.

Arts and culture

Joel Edgerton

Mr Edgerton is a world renowned Hollywood actor, producer, director and screenwriter. His film credits include Star Wars, Animal Kingdom and The Great Gatsby.

Sport

Deborah Sosimenko

Born and raised in Doonside, Ms Sosimenko represented Australia in athletics in the hammer throw at the 2000 & 2004 Olympic Games and won a gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Education

William Palmer

Holder of a Ph D and B H Neumann Awardee Bill is a former Mathematics Teacher at Blacktown Boys High School and retired Senior Lecturer at Sydney University. Bill has served for 20 years on Council’s Tertiary Education Scholarship Awards Committee.
