Chemical clean out

CleanOut is a free service, provided by the NSW EPA, for the safe disposal of a range of household chemicals that could cause harm to human health and the environment if they are not disposed of correctly. CleanOut events are held at locations throughout NSW on specified dates throughout the year.

The next CleanOut in our area is:

Sunday, 20 October 2019
9.00 am – 3.30 pm
Blacktown City Council Works Depot
Station Street, Rooty Hill

What can I take to a household chemical CleanOut event?

You can take up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of these materials:

  • acids and alkalis

  • ammonia-based cleaners

  • car and household batteries

  • fire extinguishers

  • floor-care products

  • fluorescent globes and tubes

  • gas bottles

  • hobby chemicals

  • motor oils and cooking oils

  • paint and paint-related products

  • pesticides and herbicides

  • poisons

  • pool chemicals

  • solvents and household cleaners

  • smoke detectors

Storing and transporting unwanted chemicals

Handle and transport chemicals carefully:

  • Never mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions.

  • Wherever possible keep all chemicals in their original containers.

  • Ensure containers are clearly labelled and well-sealed. If you do not know the contents, label the container 'unknown chemical'.

  • Liquid can leak during transport: wrap containers holding liquids securely in newspaper, place in sturdy plastic bags and then in plastic buckets or trays.

  • Keep household chemicals away from passengers e.g. place in the boot of your car.
