Head back to the middle ages at the spectacular Blacktown City Medieval Fayre.

Watch knights clad in shining armour compete in epic battles of strength, skill and bravery in both stand-up battles and incredible jousting competitions, which features riders from all over the country fighting for the prestigious title.

Be immersed in the medieval culture through medieval displays, combat artillery, handmade arts and crafts, a working Blacksmith and Woodturners village, and medieval-themed food. Even better when you come dressed in medieval garb and compete in the Best Dressed competition.

Experience the excitement and pageantry of a bygone era in a truly authentic way. This event should not be missed.

Tickets are $10 per person per day including booking fee. Children 3 years and under are free.

Accessibility

Accessible parking

We have accessible parking onsite. Please follow directions from traffic site when you arrive.

Quiet sensory space

We have a quiet space located at the Blacktown Library van. Please refer to the quiet space on the event map.

Accessible toilets

There are accessible toilets through out the event site.

Accessible viewing area to watch the Jousting 

We have a small dedicated accessible viewing area for the main arena. Please refer to the site map.

Auslan interpreter

We do not currently have an Auslan interpreter for this event.

Cannons and explosive noises

Medieval Fayre does have some loud cannons and explosives during the program. Please refer to the full event program to see the scheduled projecticle entertainment times.

Accessible pathways

Whilst Nurragingy has many accessible pathways that are wheelchair friendly, there are some parts of the event that can get muddy in adverse weather conditions.

Best dressed competition

Have you got your costume ready for the #BlacktownMedievalFayre25?

We will be holding the Best Dressed Competition again this year, and you could be in the running to win a Hoyts gift voucher. 

The Best Dressed Competition will be held on Saturday 30 August.  To enter simply follow the instructions below.

Entries close 4 pm Sunday 31 August. The winners will be announced on Thursday 4 September.

How to enter:

  1. Use our selfie stand or get someone to take your picture in front of the castle.
  2. Select what category you're wanting to enter for (one category only per submission)

    Categories include;

    • Best Dressed
    • Best Dressed Group (2 or more people)
    • Best Dressed Child (12 and under)
  3. Upload your picture to the form via the QR Code presented onsite.
  4. Entries close 4 pm on Sunday 31 August.

Medieval Fayre Best Dressed Competition Terms and Conditions

  • Participation in this competition is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  • Competition commences 10 am Saturday 30 August 2025 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and ends on day of event Sunday 31 August 2025 at 4 pm.
  • To enter, eligible entrants, during the competition period must upload a photo in front of the castle dressed in your best medieval outfit via the QR Code.
  • Instagram accounts must be set to public to enter the competition. Entries on private accounts won’t be considered.
  • Entrants must be following and tagging Blacktown City Council Instagram page. Incomprehensible or incomplete entries will be deemed invalid.
  • Use the hashtag #BlacktownMedievalbestdressed25 in the caption of your post.
  • You must own the photo. By submitting an entry, you give Blacktown City Council permission to use your image in Council marketing communications and social media.
  • All valid entries will go through a check process. If your photo is deemed inappropriate it will be deleted. 
  • Winner will be determined via a public vote on the Blacktown City Medieval Fayre Facebook page on Tuesday 2 September and will be announced on Thursday 4 September 2025.

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter the event site by car?

Access to the site is via Knox Rd

Do you accept Companion Cards?

Yes. Holders of a valid Companion/Carer Card will receive free entry when accompanying a paid ticket holder at the Medieval Fayre this weekend. Please see event staff at the gate with your card.

What time do the gates open?

Gates open at 10 am.

Can I bring my own picnic on site?

Yes, you can.

Can I bring alcohol onsite?

No you can’t this is an alcohol-free event. However, there will be a licensed bar area onsite to purchase from. All alcoholic drinks must be consumed in the licenced area. 

Is there first aid onsite?

Yes, St John is located onsite. If you need first aid please alert one of our event staff in an orange high-vis shirt.  

Is the event free to enter? 

Tickets are $10 per person including booking fee. Children 3 years and under are free. Tickets available from 8.30 am Tuesday 15 April.

Do I need to purchase a new ticket for August if I already purchase in May?

Yes. All original ticket purchases were refunded. If you wish to attend in August you will need to purchase a new ticket using the updated ticket link on the website.

Are there fireworks? 

No this event does not have fireworks. 

Can I bring my own marque or tent? 

Yes, they are permitted. However can only be setup in the picnic areas away from the event site. 

Is there accessible parking onsite?

Yes there is limited accessible parking onsite. Please follow directions from traffic staff upon entry at Knox rd.

What time are the jousters competing?

The jousting will be live on the main arena at 11 am and 2 pm each day. 

Is parking included in the entry fee?

Council does not charge a fee for parking at our Medieval Fayre. However, parking is not guaranteed or included in the entry ticket fee.

Is there public transport close by?

Yes - Doonside train station is located 600 m from the front entrance of Nurragingy where all the actions starts for Medieval Fayre! This is a short 10 minute walk for most people.

Can I take professional photographs on the day?

You are more than welcome to attend and take photos on the day. Please source approval from people you are photographing if using for marketing purposes. Please check in at the Event Information booth with our media team should you require any further information or directions on best locations.

Can I get a media pass for the day?

Please check in at the Event Information booth with our media team on arrival. We do not give out media passes but our media team can assist you on the day.

How do i purchase a ticket? 

Tickets are $10 per person including booking fee. Children 3 years and under are free. Tickets are available online before the day or you can purchase on the day at the entry gates with cash or eftpos.

 

 

 

 

Conditions of entry

  • No BYO Alcohol permitted.
  • Security has the right to refuse entry or evict any person deemed intoxicated, under the influence of drugs or alcohol, being a public nuisance, or displaying antisocial behaviours.
  • Smoking of cigarettes and e-cigarettes is permitted in the designated smoking areas only.
  • Pets are permitted and must be kept on a lead at all times.
  • Large tents, marquees and umbrellas are permitted in the picnic areas only away from the event site. 
  • Replica weapons are permitted. Security will check all items are deemed safe on entry, blunt or dull blades. 

The following items are prohibited:

  • Alcohol or Illegal substances of any kind
  • Unauthorised drones, bicycles, tricycles or other motorised scooters or Segway’s
  • Possession of flares, fireworks, laser pointers, glow sticks, horns, air horns, whistles, Vuvuzela, other irregular sound devices including amplified or non amplified speakers
  • Sharpened weapons of any kind, including any item that can be used as a projectile
  • Any devise that has the potential to cause injury, become a nuisance or disrupt the event or fellow patrons
