Councillor Griffiths AM was elected to Council in 2008 and is serving her third term. She was first elected Deputy Mayor by her fellow Councillors in October 2019 and retained this role until December 2021. She represents the community on Blacktown City’s Central Business Districts Enhancement Advisory, Kids’ Early Learning and Women’s Community Advisory Committees, as well as the Blacktown Venue Management Limited Board, Hawkesbury River Country Council and Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC).

For the past 23 years, she has been an active member of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) NSW Branch, including President (2010 to 2012) and City Vice President. Councillor Griffiths is a Local Government NSW board member as well as representative on the Bush Fire Co-ordination Committee and Local Government NSW Rural Fire Service Committee. 

As a member of the NSW Joint Ministerial Advisory Council, Councillor Griffiths worked with the Minister for Local Government to increase the number of roles for women in local government. She has fulfilled various roles with children’s services and the Industry Training and Advisory Body for the health industry, Local Government Child Care Task Force, and the Review of Children’s Services Regulations 2004. She has also been Chair for the Coalition for Women, National Women’s Consultative Committee and the Women in Sports board. Appointed Chef de Mission and Australian Coach of the Futsal Under 21 Women’s Indoor Soccer Team to tour Spain 2004, Councillor Griffiths has been an elite coach for Nepean Football Club and Blacktown Spartans Football Club’s Under 21 women’s teams. At a local level, she coaches Glenwood Redbacks Soccer Club Inc.’s Over 30 women’s team. 

Councillor Griffiths was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List for her significant service to local government, to women's football, and to industrial relations.

Councillor Griffiths is committed to fostering Blacktown City’s infrastructure and providing quality childcare and aged care as well as recreational and sporting facilities. A strong advocate of TAFE and skills development, she is passionate about developing services for our youth through apprenticeships and traineeships.
