Blacktown Local Planning Panel

Following recent changes to NSW Planning legislation, Blacktown City Council must set up a Local Planning Panel by 1 March 2018.

The Panel will play a major role in shaping the future of our City. It will determine a large number and variety of applications for development with a value of between $5 million and $30 million. The Panel will also make decisions that may result in changes to our local planning controls and, as a result, may have a significant impact on the future built form and character of our City.

In addition to appointing 2 experts to sit on the Panel, we are also required to appoint 1 community representative for each of the City’s 5 Wards.

Community representatives will play a vital role on the Panel. They will be responsible for actively promoting the needs and interests of their Ward and the wider community to ensure those needs and interests are taken into account by the Panel when making decisions.

Each Panel member will be appointed for a period of 3 years and will be paid for their time in accordance with rates to be set by the NSW Government. The rates are due to be released at the end of November and have not yet been advised to Council. It is likely that the Panel will meet between 20 and 40 times each year.

Eligibility

To sit on the panel, you must live in Blacktown City and you cannot be a Mayor, Councillor, property developer or real estate agent.
