Access to our information

Overview

We make information available to the public in line with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (the Act).

Our open access information is available on our website or upon inspection at our Administration Centre.

All other requests for information can be made by completing our Informal application to access information form, or a formal application may be required depending on the information sought. Refer to our Informal and Formal application page for further information.

If you are an NSW government agency, local council, state-owned corporation, or public authority holding our information, you might need to consult with us before disclosing that information. Please email all third-party consultation requests to council@blacktown.nsw.gov.au. In the subject field please address email to the Right to Information Officer. 

If you are seeking Section 88B instruments, Deposited plans and Administration sheets, this information can be obtained from the NSW Land Registry Services ( LRS ) by containing an authorised Information Broker listed by LRS.

If you are seeking the name of a property owner, this information can be obtained from the NSW Land Registry Services (LRS) by contacting an authorised Information Broker listed by LRS.

If you are seeking Sewer service diagrams in the Sydney, Illawarra and Blue Mountains areas, please contact an authorised Sydney Water Property Link broker.

Informal application

Most requests for information can be satisfied by completing our Informal request to access information form.(PDF, 195KB)

This includes the following information regarding Development applications:

  • development consents
  • modifications to development consents
  • approved plans
  • construction certificates
  • occupation certificates
  • structural certification documents
  • submissions (excluding personal information).

Applications are processed within 20 working days. We do not charge an application fee for informal requests, however we may charge processing fees for search time and photocopying. Please refer to our Goods and Services Pricing Schedule

Formal application

A formal application to access information will be required if you are seeking information that may be:

  • commercially or legally sensitive

  • personal information of another person

  • confidential information.

Requests are determined within 20 working days by our Right to Information Officer.  We may also extend the decision time by up to 15 working days if we need to consult with a third party or retrieve an archived record.

An application fee of $30 is payable with your application.

You may also be asked to pay a charge for processing the application which will be discussed with you.  If you are unsure whether the information you seek will need a formal request, contact our Governance Services section on 02 5300 6000

Please note identification documents will only be required if you are seeking access to your personal information.   

Dividing fence - adjoining owner details 

If you are seeking information to contact a neighbour about a dividing fence and/or serve a notice under Section 21 of the Dividing Fences Act 1991, please complete our application for adjoining owner details(PDF, 168KB) form. 

Privacy management plan and our Data breach policy

We handle personal and health information in a fair and reasonable manner in line with the Privacy & Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records & Information Privacy Act 2002.
