Borrow

Search our catalogue to see what items you may like to borrow.

  • You may borrow up to 35 items per library card, with limits on some materials:
    - 15 DVDs
    - 15 Premiers Reading Challenge
    - 10 magazines
    - 5 language kits

  • These items can be borrowed for a period of 3 weeks

  • You may also borrow a wide range of e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and more across our e-library platforms

    Borrow Box  10 items for 10 days, renewable 5 times. 
    Overdrive/Libby   10 items for 21 days.
     You can reserve 4 items at a time. 
    Hoopla  10 items per month.
     e-books available for 21 days;
     movies available for 72 hours;
     music available for 7 days.
    Indyreads  20 items for 21 days.
    Pressreader  Unlimited. 

Renew

Renewals can be done over the phone, in person or online by signing in to your library account. Watch our helpful video on how to renew your items online.

  • Most items can be renewed up to 3 times, with some restrictions.
    To renew, items cannot be:
    - overdue
    - reserved by another library member

  • Some collections have limited renewals such as HSC resources, toys and magazines.

  • Renewed items provide an additional 3 weeks from the date of renewal.

Reserve

You can reserve up to 10 items per library card.

To begin reserving items, watch our useful video or follow the instructions below:

Sign in

You can reserve items in the collection if they are currently on loan, or if they are held at another library branch.
Use your library card number and PIN/password to sign in to the library catalogue.

 

Search

Search for the item of your choice and click on the title to view the full item record.

 

Reserve

Click 'Place Reservation' and complete the form, including your preferred location from which to collect the item.

 

Collect

You will be notified when the item is available for collection. If requested items are not collected within 10 days of being allocated to you they will be returned to the shelves for other members to borrow. 

Return

  • You can also return your library items at a variety of community centres, using the special return chutes available:

    - Marsden Park Neighbourhood Centre
    - Glenwood Community Hub
    - Bungarribee Community Resource Hub

Whilst we don't charge overdue fees, you cannot borrow items or use computers if you have long overdue items or outstanding charges on your card.

Lost or damaged items

If you have lost or damaged an item, you will be charged for the cost to replace the item plus a non-refundable processing fee.

If you would like to report a damaged or lost item, contact us via email or speak with library staff at your preferred branch.
Please note, the library does not accept replacement copies of lost items.

If you find the item after you have paid for it, you can return it to the library and be entitled to a refund. The refund will be in the form of a cheque from Blacktown City Council, for the amount you paid for the item, less the processing fee.

Inter-Library Loan

It may be possible to obtain material not held by Blacktown City Libraries through the Inter-Library Resources Sharing Scheme. The following restrictions and conditions apply:

  • Loans are for a period of 3 weeks and renewals are at the discretion of the lending library.
  • Recently published items cannot be requested via the inter-library loan service.
  • Only those holding full membership are eligible for the inter-library loan service.
  • Audiovisual material is not commonly available on inter-library loan.

Check the library catalogue to confirm that the item is not held in the collection.

 

Request

Place the request online or contact us at any Blacktown City Libraries location.

 

Pay

All inter-library loan requests incur a non-refundable charge of $4.00, payable in cash at the time of making the request.
An additional charge may apply for items held by University, TAFE and special libraries. The Inter-Library Loans Officer will advise you in the event that this additional charge may apply.

 

Confirm

The Inter-Library Loans Officer will be notified of your request and will perform the following actions:

  • verify the details of the item
  • identify libraries that hold the item and place a request to borrow the item on your behalf
  • contact you if there are any problems with your request or if the item is not obtainable

 

Collect

You will be notified when the item is awaiting collection. Requests for inter-library loans take approximately 2-4 weeks to be fulfilled. 

Suggest a purchase

Blacktown City Libraries welcomes all suggestions from the community however we cannot guarantee we can obtain the suggested items. See below on how to suggest an item for our collection:

Search the library catalogue to confirm that your suggested item is not already held in the collection.

 

Suggest

You can suggest items for purchase by signing in to your library account with your library card number and PIN/password, or by contacting any of the Blacktown City Libraries locations.
