Current Availability  

Council are currently accepting applications for rights of interments within the following sections

  • 6 (monumental lawn area) – full grave monuments are permitted  
  • 7 Columbarium Wall for ash interments
  • 8 (lawn area – headstone or plaque only)

    Please note:

    • Section 9 is reserved for future release to the public
    • Interments (burials or ashes) in Sections 1-5 are only permitted with evidence of ownership of an existing Interment Right
    • A right of interment gives you exclusive rights to use a burial plot for the interment (burial) of deceased human remains.
    • All available sections feature easy access parking and access to water utilities

       

About St Bartholomew's Cemetery

St Bartholomew’s Church Hall and Cemetery, located on Ponds Road, Prospect was built in 1841, and is recognised for its State Heritage significance. It remains a key landmark in the area due to its prominent position in the landscape

How to purchase an interment right?

  • Complete the following application form Application to Purchase an Interment Right(PDF, 239KB)  and submit to cemeteries@blacktown.nsw.gov.au.
     Alternately, you may submit your application in person at 62 Flushcombe Road, Blacktown NSW 2148 (please ensure you call 02 5300 6000 to make an appointment before submitting in person). 
  • Provide a copy of each right holder's 'current' photo ID
  • You may have up to 2 'unused' rights of interment per cemetery, up to a total of 10 rights of interment (for example, you may have 8 used or partially used rights of interment and two 'unused' rights of interment, per cemetery)

Important:

If there are two or more right holders, each right holder needs to sign each associated application such as any subsequent notice of interment or erect a memorial application. 

How to organise a burial?

Council do not provide funeral directors or gravediggers.

Burial arrangements can be made by submitting a completed Notice of Interment for Burial Sites(PDF, 234KB) application and a death certificate or medical certificate of cause of death. If you have a funeral director, they may be able to assist you.

For interments of ashes in columbarium walls, please submit a completed application for Notice of Interment for Memorial Gardens or Walls(PDF, 219KB).(PDF, 219KB) This application involves the ordering of a plaque.

The applicable fees includes:

  1. Interment application fee
  2. General cemetery maintenance fee 
  3. Interment Services Levy (NSW Government)

Additional fees apply for burials which take place on weekends or public holidays.

How to organise a headstone or memorial?

Applications to erect a headstone or memorial can be submitted with the assistance of your chosen stonemason. Applications can only be authorised by the Interment Right holder/s or their appointed representative (evidence required).

Submit your Application to Erect a Memorial(PDF, 236KB) to Council. Fees apply.

General memorial requirements:

  1. Strictly adhere to AS4204:2019
  2. Be installed by a licenced monumental stonemason

Section 8 memorial restrictions:

  1. Maximum height is 800mm
  2. Maximum width for a single burial plot is 1150mm
  3. Maximum width for a double headstone (across two adjacent burial plots) is 2000mm
  4. Maximum depth is 300mm (from rear of gravesite or rear of beam)

Section 6 memorial restrictions:

  1. Maximum height is 800mm
  2. Maximum width is 1150mm
  3. Maximum length is 2400mm from rear of grave or beam

How to cancel a perpetual interment right

You may submit an application to Cancel an Interment Right. You will be refunded 90% of the original purchase price. Submit your request for cancellation of your right of interment 'in writing,' either via email or letter.

Your request must include:

  1. The original certificate of interment right supporting documentation
  2. A copy of each right holder's 'current' photo ID

How to transfer a perpetual interment right

Interment right(s) may be transferred to friends or family.

To apply, submit an Application to Transfer an Interment Right(PDF, 252KB) along with the original ownership certificate/receipt, photo ID and supporting information. Fees apply.

Fees and Charges

Credit card payments can be made via online payment portal or through Customer Service in Council’s Civic Centre. Credit card surcharges apply. Cash payments can also be arranged to be made at Customer Service in Council’s Civic Centre during business hours.

Operating hours and access

The cemetery is open to the public seven days a week from 7.30 am to 6 pm (7.30 pm during daylight savings time).

Maintenance and repair of gravesites

The holder of the interment right is responsible for maintenance and repair of their individual gravesite/s. Glass or other items that we deem to be a safety hazard are not permitted and if necessary, will be removed.

Council will regularly check all new graves and as required organise for site to be topped up during the post burial settlement period. This natural process of settlement can take between 12 to 18 months.
