Blacktown City Libraries can make deliveries of library material to local residents who are unable to physically visit the library due to poor health, disability, or other related situations.

Alternatively, you can contact the library to request a Home Library Service application package to be posted to you.

Frequently asked questions

Who do you deliver to?

If you are a resident of the Blacktown Local Government Area, we can deliver to you for free if you are in one of the following situations:

  • unable to visit the library due to poor health
  • constrained with a disability
  • suffering from a chronic illness
  • frail aged
  • resident in a care facility
  • a carer.

Please note: There is no age limit to this service.

You will also need certification from a service provider, such as a doctor, registered nurse, disabled service provider, community service organisation for these instances, unless you are a resident of a care facility in which case this certification is waived.

What can I borrow?

Our Home Library Service members can borrow items from any of the library's lending collections, including:

  • large print books
  • regular print books
  • audiovisual material (including audiobooks, CDs and DVDs)
  • magazines
  • items from the community languages collections
  • e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines and streaming movies. This depends on the digital device you have, and we can help.

Who selects my items?

Your items can be selected by library staff using the information you provide, or by you through the library's reservation system or when you visit the library.

Who delivers my items?

Your items will be delivered by a regular library courier, or you can have a family member pick them up for you.

How often will I get my library items?

We can deliver your items on a 2-week or 4-week cycle. We will arrange this with you when you join the service.

Can a Home Library Service member request a particular item?

Yes. You can reserve it yourself online through the library catalogue.

Alternatively, you can contact your designated Home Library Service Branch between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm to make a request. 

Can I stop the service for a short period?

When you go on holidays, or go to hospital, just keep us informed and we can stop and start the delivery as required.

I am a diversional therapist at an aged care centre in the Blacktown Local Government Area. Can I access this service too?

Yes. We can organise bulk loans for residents or even assist in addressing the needs of individual residents.
