Home Library Service

Blacktown City Libraries can make deliveries of library material to local residents who are unable to physically visit the library due to poor health, disability, or other related situations.  See below for more information. 

How to apply

  1. Print and complete the Home Library Service application form and Reader Profile form.  Alternatively, you can contact the library to request a Home Library Service application package to be posted to you.

  2. Return completed forms to your local branch or by post:

    Alternatively, you can also email the completed forms to hls@blacktown.nsw.gov.au

  3. Staff will then contact you to discuss your delivery schedule and any other questions you may have.

Frequently asked questions

Who do you deliver to?

If you are a resident of the Blacktown local Government area and are in one of the following situations, we can deliver to you for free.

  • Unable to visit the library due to poor health
  • Constrained with a disability
  • Suffering from a chronic illness
  • Frail aged
  • Resident in a care facility
  • A carer

You will also need medical certification for these instances, unless you are a resident of a care facility in which case this certification is waived.

What can I borrow?

Our Home Library Service members can borrow items from any of the library's lending collections including:

  • large print books,
  • regular print books,
  • audiovisual material (including audiobooks, CDs and DVDs)
  • magazines
  • items from the community languages collections.
 

How often will I get my library items?

We can deliver your items on a 2 week or 4 week cycle. We will arrange this with you when you join the service.

Can a Home Library Service member request a particular item?

Yes.
To reserve a particular item from the collection, please contact your designated Home Library Service Branch between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Alternatively you can reserve it yourself online through the library catalogue.

Can I stop the service for a short period?

When you go on holidays, or go to hospital just keep us informed and we can stop and start the delivery as required.  

I am a diversional therapist at an aged care centre in the Blacktown Local Government Area. Can I access this service too?

Yes. We can organise bulk loans for residents, or even assist in addressing the needs of individual residents.
