Nature Strips
We are committed to establishing and promoting high quality streetscapes that improve the amenity of our City. We also facilitate safe pedestrian and vehicle movement that reflects the local character and engenders a sense of community pride.
Mowing of nature strips
We do not have the funds or resources to implement a regular mowing service of nature strip areas adjoining private residential allotment or commercial properties and must rely on the community pride of local residents and property owners to help maintain the aesthetic values of their neighbourhood.
We encourage residents and property owners to mow the nature strip area surrounding their property at the same frequency as the internal lawns of their property.
If you have concerns about an overgrown nature strip, please contact us on greenspace@blacktown.nsw.gov.au
Modification of nature strips
You must request our permission if you propose to modify a nature strip. Modifications may include converting traditional grass verges to low growing shrub gardens or in some cases synthetic grass.
You must first review our Vegetated Road Verge and Nature Strip Maintenance Approval Policy which sets out the criteria we use to assess these types of requests.
The completed application must be emailed back to council@blacktown.nsw.gov.au
If we approve a change to the nature strip
In these instances, maintenance of these converted verges and gardens are the responsibility of the resident and would need to meet strict criteria for their installation and ongoing upkeep.
