Family and domestic violence
Family and domestic violence refers to violence, abuse and intimidation between family members or people who are or have been in an intimate relationship. The perpetrator uses violence to control and dominate the other person. This causes fear, physical harm and/or psychological harm.
Domestic violence is a violation of human rights and can include:
- emotional abuse
- physical assault
- sexual assault
- verbal abuse
- financial abuse
- psychological abuse
- isolating a person from their friends and family
- stopping a person from practicing their religion.

In 2016, we became the first council in Western Sydney to gain White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation. The accreditation was awarded in recognition of our actions to prevent and respond to violence against women.
