Blacktown Housing Strategy 2020

The Blacktown Housing Strategy 2020(PDF, 11MB) sets out a 20-year housing vision for Blacktown City as it grows and changes. It supports the Blacktown Local Strategic Planning Statement 2020 (LSPS) and the NSW Government’s Central City District Plan.

Our 20-year housing vision is for a city that promotes diverse and affordable housing for its current and future community, supported by essential infrastructure in the right locations and at the right time.

Our City is one of the fastest growing in Australia and within 10 years it will be home to more than half a million people. The Housing Strategy guides how we will plan to ensure there is sufficient capacity in our residential areas, and that appropriate housing will be provided in suitable locations within our City. The Housing Strategy aims to concentrate housing growth in established areas around key Strategic Centres and transport nodes that provide significant opportunities for urban renewal, and in new release areas in the North West Growth Area. The Strategy also recognises and maintains the character of existing low density residential areas outside the urban renewal precincts.

Our Housing Strategy Priorities are:

  1.  Plan for housing supply to meet population growth
  2.  Plan for housing supported by infrastructure
  3.  Plan for appropriate housing in suitable locations
  4.  Plan for diversity and choice in housing
  5.  Plan to improve housing affordability
  6.  Promote excellence in housing design
  7.  Improve housing resilience and sustainability
