In his fourth term at Council, Councillor Diaz was the first representative of Asian background to be elected to Blacktown City Council. Councillor Diaz has served as Foundation President of the Philippine Community Council of New South Wales and is a two-term past President of Filipino Communities Council of Australia. As Area Commander for Australia and Oceania of The Knights of Rizal, he was the first Filipino-Australian recipient of the rank of Knight Grand Officer of Rizal. He is also the founder and Charter President of the Philippine Sydney Jaycees and a current officer of the Riverstone and District Lions Club.
After successfully lobbying for Filipino Language to be included for study in the Higher School Certificate curriculum, Councillor Diaz was appointed Chairman of the Filipino Language Committee, NSW Board of Studies by the NSW Government’s Department of Education. He also served on the NSW Board of Community and Adult Education and has been a lecturer at universities and schools in Manila, the USA and Australia.
The first Filipino lawyer to be admitted as a barrister in Australia, Councillor Diaz was previously a Senior Legal Counsel of a foreign bank. He has been a legal practitioner in Blacktown for over 25 years.
Councillor Diaz is a Centennial Outstanding Alumnus and first Excellencia Awardee of Centro Escolar University, Manila.
