Staying safe online

Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC)

Provides advice and information about how to protect you, your family and your business online. Also provides relevant and timely information on how internet users can protect themselves from cyber security threats such as software vulnerabilities, online scams, malicious activities and risky online behaviours.  

eSafety Commissioner

Access online safety information and guidance plus educational resources and training on online safety.  eSafety also responds to complaints about serious cyberbullying or image-based abuse.

eSafety and children

Kids Helpline

Free, private and confidential 24/7 phone and online counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25.  There is also lots of information on eSafety, for all ages.

A very useful site for both parents and children that clearly describes cyberbullying and how to avoid it, plus how to stay safe online.

ThinkUKnow

An online safety website for teenagers. The website has two sections - one for parents and one for young people aged 11-17 - and includes information on cyberbullying, sexting, digital reputation and online relationships. 

Youth Law Australia

A community legal service that is dedicated to helping children and young people to find a legal solution to their problems. (Previously known as Lawstuff).

Domestic and family violence

eSafety Commissioner - Domestic and family violence

Access information and advice on online abuse as part of domestic and family violence, including technology-related abuse, online safety planning and finding help and support. 

Savvy Finance

A free e-learning program designed for women at risk of domestic or family violence that can help you recognise the signs of financial abuse, and the steps you can take to get help.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission - Little Black Book of Scams 

A pocket-sized guide so you can spot, avoid, and protect yourself against scams.

IDCARE

Australia and New Zealand’s national identity & cyber support service that helps individuals and organisations reduce the harm they experience from the compromise and misuse of their identity information by providing effective response and mitigation.

MoneySmart (ASIC) - Scams

Explains how scams work, how to identify and avoid different scams and what to do if you have been scammed. The website also contains a list of unlicensed companies that you should not deal with.

Provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams.

Reporting Online Incidents

Australian Communications and Media Authority

Report spam, unwanted calls, texts or emails to the Australian Communications and Media Authority. 

Australian Federal Police

Report serious breaches of online child safety to the Australian Federal Police.

Australian Taxation Office (ATO)

Report tax-related scams to the ATO.

ReportCyber

Report cybercrimes including online image abuse, online shopping fraud, romance fraud, identity theft, email compromise, internet fraud, ransomware or malware. (Formerly known as ACORN).
