2026 Lunar New Year Celebrations

Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens in Nurragingy Reserve will be adorned with colour as we prepare to ring in the Year of the Horse. 

Decorated in the spirit of Lunar, the celebrations will feature a range of cultural activities and entertainment between 4 pm - 9 pm including the Lion Dance, official opening and firecrackers at 7pm followed by the Dragon dance at 7.55pm. The night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.

Conditions of entry

  • alcohol free event
  • security has the right to refuse entry or evict any person deemed intoxicated or a public nuisance
  • smoking of cigarettes and e-cigarettes is permitted in the designated smoking areas only
  • pets are permitted and must be kept on a lead at all times
  • large tents, marquees and umbrellas are not permitted in front of Market and Main Stage areas.

The following items are prohibited

  • alcohol & illegal substances of any kind
  • unauthorised drones, bicycles, tricycles or other motorised scooters or Segway’s
  • flares, fireworks, laser pointers
  • weapons of any kind, including any item that can be used as a projectile
  • any devise that has the potential to cause injury, become a nuisance or disrupt the event

Accessibility

Accessible parking

We have accessible parking onsite. Please follow directions from traffic site when you arrive and have your accessible parking pass ready. 

Amplification

Please note this event has loud amplification and does not provide a quiet sensory space. This event also has fireworks which are quite loud at the end of the event. 

Accessible toilets

There are accessible toilets through out the event site. 

Auslan interpreter

We do not currently have an Auslan interpreter for this event. 

Accessible pathways

Whilst Nurragingy has many accessible pathways that are wheelchair friendly, there are some parts of the event that can get muddy in adverse weather conditions.

How do I enter the event site by car?

Access to the site is via Knox rd.

What time does the event start?

Event starts at 4 pm.

Can I bring my own picnic on site?

Yes, you can.

Can I bring alcohol onsite?

No you can’t. This is an alcohol free event.

Is there first aid onsite?

Yes, St Johns is located onsite next to the kids rides area. If you need first aid please alert one of our event staff in an orange high-vis shirt.

What time do the rides close? 

All rides will close by 8.30 pm 

Are the rides free? 

Yes. All rides and activities are free 

Is the event free to enter? 

Yes. The event is free and no bookings required

What time are the fireworks? 

Fireworks will launch anytime between 9.00 pm- 9.15 pm. 

Can I bring my own marque or tent? 

Yes, they are permitted. However not in front of the main or market stage. 

Is there accessible parking onsite?

Yes there is limited accessible parking onsite. Please follow directions from traffic staff upon entry at Knox rd.

Did you know? 

Lunar New Year marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar and hence, a New Year! 

Lunar New year is a holiday in which people honour household and heavenly deities, as well as their ancestors. More modern generations also see the holiday as a time for family to celebrate and come together.

It is a traditional holiday celebrated by many East Asian countries, including China, Korea and Vietnam, where families come together and celebrate new beginnings.
