Memorial Grove

An initiative of Blacktown City’s Women’s Advisory Committee, the project brought together members of families who had experienced domestic violence, artists and community representatives to lead the design and delivery of this special memorial.

Memorial Grove recognises the pain and trauma borne by the victims of domestic violence and their families. The central sculpture, CONTEMPLATE by Yufang Chi, explores the impact of a droplet falling on the surface of water.

The multiple forms and meaning of water are essential in the work, which could reflect the source of life, cycle in nature, transformation, as well as tears. Inspired by the transient moment of water, the work utilises the simple, curved shape of a drop as the key element of the sculpture, to capture and reveal the idea of transition, contemplation and healing.
