Women's Safety
In 2024 Blacktown City recorded over 2,000 domestic violence related assault charges. Domestic violence behaviour can be anything from verbal abuse, intimidation, stalking, financial deprivation and social isolation to physical violence and sexual assault.
Women have the right to be free from violence, harassment and discrimination. Starting a conversation around this serious issue is an important first step in putting an end to this violence.
You are not alone and there is always somewhere to go for help. We must continue to work together as a community to make our City a much safer place for our women and children.
We must stand firm, and we must stand together, united against this violence.
There are some strategies you can use to try and protect yourself at home, including:

stay in touch with friends and family through phone, email and social media

let someone know if you are feeling unsafe

identify areas of your home where you can safely retreat to defuse tense situations

update your safety plan.
The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032
The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-32 (National Plan) was released on 17 October 2022 by the Minister for Social Services, the Hon Amanda Rishworth MP.
The National Plan sets out a national framework and whole-of-government approach for ending gender-based violence. It provides the foundation for a whole-of-society approach to end gender-based violence in one generation. It also sets the government’s direction for the next 10 years.
